Governor’s Chief Economic and Business Advisor Releases Statement on October Employment Numbers

Nov 15, 2019 | Press Release

Sacramento, CA – Following the California Employment Development Department’s (EDD) release of the state’s employment data from October, the Governor’s Chief Economic and Business Advisor and Director of the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, Lenny Mendonca issued the following statement:

“It is encouraging to see California’s unemployment rate dip to a new record low of 3.9 percent and another strong month of job gains. California’s innovation economy continues to create jobs over a record long 116 months. But we also need to ensure that those jobs are high-quality jobs and have a pathway that supports economic mobility. That is why Governor Newsom created the Future of Work Commission. The Commission, which met for a third time yesterday at UC Riverside, convenes employers, workers, educational institutions, technology innovators, and nonprofits across the public and private sectors in local- and state-level so that we can look at up-skilling workers and how to upgrade jobs. Innovation and quality jobs go hand in hand.”
